Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to get in touch?

Text is the quickest and most reliable way to reach me. As I’m often in session providing uninterrupted care, phone calls may be missed—but I’ll return your message as soon as I’m available. You’re always welcome to leave a voicemail, but texting ensures the fastest response.

Do you accept walk-ins?

At this time, all sessions are by appointment only. This allows me to give each client the time and attention they deserve.

What is your cancellation policy?

I kindly ask for:

  1. 24 hours’ notice for in studio sessions
  2. 48 hours’ notice for mobile sessions

Late cancellations and no-shows will result in a 100% charge of the scheduled service fee. This allows me to respect both my time and other clients who may be waiting for an appointment.

If a late cancellation or no-show fee is not paid, the balance will be due at your next appointment before services are provided. Clients with one no-shows will be required to prepay for all future sessions.

I understand that emergencies happen, and exceptions may be made when appropriate.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Credit cards are always welcome. To help reduce processing fees (and keep costs down for clients), I also accept cash and digital payments like Venmo, Cash App, and Apple Pay.

How do I purchase a gift certificate?

E-gift cards can be purchased anytime directly through the website for quick and easy gifting.

If you prefer a physical gift card, please call or text in advance to arrange a time for pickup. As a solo provider, I may be in session or away from the studio, and scheduling ahead ensures I don’t miss you.

What should I expect during my massage session?

Every session at Onyx & Ruby is fully customized to you. We’ll start with a quick conversation about your goals, areas of tension, and any concerns. From there, your session may include a blend of techniques such as Deep Tissue, Swedish, Heated Bamboo, Hot Stone, Craniosacral Therapy, or Thai stretching—based entirely on what your body needs that day.

Do I have to choose a specific type of massage when booking?

No—most sessions at Onyx & Ruby are designed to be all-inclusive and fully customized. Simply book based on the length of time (60, 90, or 120 minutes), and your session will be tailored using the techniques your body needs that day.

Please note: Specialty services such as Prenatal Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Craniosacral Therapy, and focused head or facial treatments are booked separately to ensure the proper time, setup, and care for those specific needs.

What should I wear?

Come as you are! Most massages are done with you undressed to your comfort level, and you’ll always be properly draped. For services like Craniosacral therapy, Thai Massage or stretching-focused sessions, comfortable clothing (yoga pants/athletic wear) are recommended.

Is massage painful?

Massage doesn’t have to be painful to be effective. While deeper work may involve some intensity, I always work within your comfort level. Communication is key—if something doesn’t feel right, just let me know and we’ll adjust.

Do you offer services for specific concerns like headaches or jaw pain?

Yes! I specialize in targeted work for things like:

  1. Headaches & migraines
  2. TMJ/jaw tension (including intra-oral buccal work)
  3. Neck, shoulder, and back pain
  4. Lymphatic drainage for swelling and detox support

Each session is customized to address your specific needs.

What are the benefits of Heated Bamboo Massage?

Heated Bamboo Massage is a deeply therapeutic experience that uses smooth, heated bamboo tools to melt away tension and restore balance in the body. The continuous warmth allows for deeper, more effective muscle work while maintaining a soothing, fluid flow—leaving you relaxed, refreshed, and renewed.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on technique that works with the nervous system to release deep tension in the body. It’s especially helpful for headaches, stress, and overall relaxation.

What is Thai Massage?

Thai Massage is a deeply rejuvenating, full-body experience that blends assisted stretching, rhythmic compression, and fluid movement to release tension and restore balance. Performed fully clothed, this “lazy yoga” style session improves flexibility, enhances mobility, and leaves your body feeling open, aligned, and refreshed.

What is TMJ Intra-Oral Buccal Therapy?

TMJ Intra-Oral Buccal Therapy is a focused, results-driven treatment designed to release deep tension in the jaw and facial muscles. By combining external facial work with precise intra-oral techniques (performed with gloves), this service targets areas that traditional massage cannot reach—helping to relieve pain, improve movement, and restore balance throughout the face and jaw.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage and who does it help?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique designed to support the body’s lymphatic system. Using light, precise movements, it helps encourage the natural flow of lymph fluid—reducing swelling, supporting detoxification, and promoting overall wellness.

MLD can be especially beneficial for:

  1. Swelling or fluid retention
  2. Post-surgical recovery (including cosmetic procedures)
  3. Sinus congestion or puffiness
  4. Inflammation or sluggish circulation
  5. Immune system support
  6. General detox and relaxation

This technique is very light and soothing, making it ideal for clients who need a more gentle, restorative approach.

Who should NOT receive Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

While Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is very gentle, there are certain conditions where it may not be appropriate or may require medical clearance first.

MLD is not recommended if you have:

  1. Active infection (including fever or untreated illness)
  2. Congestive heart failure or unmanaged heart conditions
  3. Kidney failure or severe kidney disease
  4. Blood clots (DVT) or a history of clotting disorders without medical clearance
  5. Hyperthyroidism

MLD may need doctor approval if you have:

  1. Recent surgery (depending on type and healing stage)
  2. Cancer or are currently undergoing treatment
  3. Severe inflammation or unexplained swelling
  4. Thyroid conditions (for neck-focused work)

Your safety is always the priority. If you’re unsure whether MLD is right for you, feel free to reach out or consult with your healthcare provider before booking.
